Australia’s workplace relations system is about to undergo further extensive re-shaping that will directly affect millions of businesses and their staff.  This article outlines the implications for businesses.

This week I attended the annual TEC conference in Sydney. As usual there were some great speakers, but I was particularly struck by the presentation by Colin James, who has given me permission to paraphrase his message.

Colin’s message about leadership was powerful, not just because of the content but also because of the manner in which it was delivered. I strongly recommend you view his presentation.

Self-employed people are eligible to receive the Federal Government’s super co-contribution if they make their contribution this financial year. The government has expanded the number of taxpayers eligible to receive the co-contribution.

Previously only employees were eligible, but now people who are self-employed and contribute up to $1,000 of their after tax income to superannuation can also qualify.

The Federal Government has released details of the minimum employment conditions that will take effect as from the 2010 and which will affect the majority of employees.

The paper, released by Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Julia Gillard, covers the hours of work, flexible working arrangements, increased parental leave, annual leave and compassionate and carers leave, public holidays, annual leave, redundancy and termination.

Sales men and women tend to get a bad rap from most of the public. From selling insurance, to used cars and “cold-calling”, sales personnel tend to be caught up in a stigma of bad suits, flashy lines and undelivered promises.
